• What is Bookabees

  • Bookabees is a subscription book club for children.

Each month they are sent exciting new books from top children's authors, either selected by you or hand chosen by us, in a personalised package.

You can either keep them for 50% RRP of the book or return them with no added cost to the subscription.

  • How it works

  • Being a Bookabees subscriber

Firstly choose your subscription of one, three or five books per month. The subscription is 100% flexible - you can change your level or cancel at anytime.

Tell us a little about your child, how old they are, their gender, which books they love, which books they haven't enjoyed and which books they already own.

Then you can be as involved as you like! If you just want great books to turn up every month without having to lift a finger, we will handpick books for your child, add them to your 'queue' and whisk them off to you once a month. If you'd like you can have control over the books your child will receive, you can browse the site and add books to your 'queue' at any time.

Want a certain book sooner? Easy, you can also move books around your queue whenever you like. But do be aware that a few days before delivery the queue 'freezes' as the Bookabees eagerly package up your books and send them off...

Your books are delivered to your child in a personalised parcel, with lots of fun extras - these might be stickers, paper aeroplanes, bookmarks and messages from the Bookabees themselves - these vary every month.

Hang on to your packaging! The books can be read and enjoyed for up to 2 months. At any stage during this period they can be returned in the prepaid packaging that they arrived in. All of the postage costs are included in your subscription.

If you'd like to keep a book, then just keep it! We'll charge your card just 50% of the RRP of the book.

If you'd like a brand new version of a book, no problem. When returning your books make a note of it on the order form. We'll charge your card the RRP of the book with 30% discount.

  • How are books chosen?

By The Bookabees or you! The Bookabees know the best books for each child's age, stage and interests, helped along by the information you give us, and authors, teachers, parents, grandparents, actors, illustrators and government lobbyists.

If you prefer you can have complete control and choose the books yourself online.

Initially The Bookabees handpick books based on the information you share with us - age, gender, the books your child has loved. But this can be refined along the way if you choose to rate and review books, and move them around your 'queue'. The more you do this, the more personalised the books we choose will be.

  • What's in a box?

One, three or five books depending on your subscription level, either chosen by you, or chosen by the Bookabees based on the information you have given us about the child.

Each book has a Bookabees library-style card so you can enter the reader's details, it's exciting to see where your book has travelled!

Your personalised parcel, will include lots of fun extras - these might be stickers, paper aeroplanes, bookmarks and messages from the Bookabees themselves - these vary every month.

The packaging your books arrive in doubles as prepaid return packaging to be sent back to us within 2 months. Or if you'd like to keep the books, just keep them! Your card will be charged just 50% of the book's RRP.

  • Why choose Bookabees

  • Why choose a subscription to a book club over, say, buying books once a month online?

Bookabees cost-wise works out at roughly the same as buying the books new, but adds so much value to the reading experience. Children (and adults!) are introduced to books they would not necessarily know about, chosen bespoke to your child's age, stage and interests.

We all know how quickly children develop, and some books fast become too young for their developmental stage. But with Bookabees, the hassle-free once a month delivery ensures that your child always has interesting new reading material. On top of this Bookabees deliveries include fun personalized extras - these might be stickers, paper aeroplanes, bookmarks and messages from the Bookabees themselves - these vary every month.

    The science bit...

Experts on reading have discovered that a child who reads is more likely to be successful in their ability to build relationships, achieve academically and be creative. Yet only 40% of England's ten year olds have a positive attitude to reading, and 32% of children cannot find things to read which interest them. Against a backdrop of a quarter of libraries closing since 2009 and the huge popularity of screens in their various forms, mean that it is harder than ever to keep a child reading. Luckily 75% of children still want their favourite stories and content in print form!

Subscription to a book club introduces your child to new stories all the time and ensures the reading habit is well established prior to adulthood.

Bookabees can either be automatic, meaning we choose books bespoke to your child's age, stage and interests and you don't have to lift a finger; or fully customizable, giving you complete control over the books you receive.
